Job Openings: Tenure Track Posts of Assistant Professors
The University of Electro-Communications invites applications for Tenure Track Posts of Assistant Professors for “The Global Human Resource Development Program for Young Researchers in Frontier Science”. Supported by the FY2007 Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology, the Japan Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), it introduces a tenure track system to provide young researchers with competitive research environments for promoting their independence and active research opportunities. The program is designed to cultivate excellent young researchers with international perspectives and social awareness in the field of information and communication technology and, related fields.

This Tenure Track Post is for a period of four years and a half until March 31, 2012. Successful candidates will belong to “The Education and Research Center for Frontier Science” located in UEC, where they will be given research laboratories of their own and entitled to research grants, allowing them to conduct their independent research. In the second year of your employment (FY2008), you may be given a long-term (up to 10 months) research opportunity outside the university (including, overseas), if the UEC deems it necessary. From the third year (FY2009), you will give lectures on the field of your expertise in the undergraduate or postgraduate courses. Your achievements will be evaluated by the interim assessment in the third year and by the final assessment in the fifth year (FY2011). Excellent results enable you to be promoted to Tenured Posts of Associate Professors or Professors at UEC.

2.Eligibility for Application
1). Applicants must have a Ph.D. by the date of start and must be advanced in research in the
  above fields.
2). Applicants must be capable of conducting independent, creative research.
3). Applicants must not belong concurrently to other research organizations / companies for the
  period of employment written below.
4). Postdoctoral experience, working experience in a private company, or equivalent is preferable.
5). The desirable age of Applicants is up to 37 or so, when hired.


3.Date of Start
October 1, 2007 or later at the earliest possible date.

4.Position
Tenure Track Assistant Professors (Full Time)
Period of Employment: From the Date of Start written above until March 31, 2012

5.Assessment during Employment
1). The interim assessment will be conducted in the third year of employment (FY2009).
2). If your achievements are approved in the final assessment in the fifth year of employment
 (FY2011), you will be promoted to Tenured Posts of Associate Professors or Professors at UEC.
 (“Tenured” status written hereby is subject to retirement due to age limit.)

6.Education
Applicants must be highly motivated to give education. From the third year of employment (FY2009), you are required to give lectures in the undergraduate or postgraduate course. You may also be required to provide postgraduate students with guidance in their research. These education activities will be evaluated in the final assessment.

7.Salary, Research Grant, etc.
1).Salary:Approximately 5.7 million yen / year (based on the policy of the UEC, taking into
  consideration an employee's age and career)
2).Activity outside UEC:A long-term (within 10 months) research opportunity outside the university
   (including, overseas) is given in the second year of employment (FY2008), if the UEC deems it
  necessary.
3).Research Grant:Approximately 5 million yen / year is granted. (The amount is subject to change
  due to the budget of MEXT)

  an education/research institution abroad.

5). Objectives of Education: within 1 page of A4 sheet

9.Instructions for Submission

  mail. The subject of the e-mail must be “Application for Tenure Track Post”. For postal mail,
  please write “Application for Tenure Track Post” on the envelope. Notification of reception will
  be e-mailed to you. If your research papers cannot be sent as PDF, they may be submitted by
  postal mail or any other means.
2). The fact of your application may be disclosed only in order to fulfill the selection process.
3). Application documents cannot be returned.
